What is involved in the treatment?
Before the procedure, a small amount of blood is taken from the patient and put into a centrifuge, where the blood is spun in order to separate the different components. The PRP, which is the component of the blood that is known for being highly effective in treating burns and skin injuries, is then injected into the chosen area, where it plumps up the skin, reducing fine lines and wrinkles.
When PRP is injected into the skin, the platelets release a number of different growth factors which stimulate a number of different cells. One cell type that is stimulated during the process is the fibroblast cell, which is the cell type that creates collagen. Collagen is what gives skin a youthful appearance. As we age, collagen is produced less and less, causing wrinkles and fine lines in the skin, and treatments such as PRP therapy can counteract this.
Another cell stimulated during the process is the pre-adipocyte cell, which is a cell type that can convert into a fat cell, which is especially important in the face to fill out lines and to contour the face.
The overall result will leave your skin rejuvenated; lifting and brightening your complexion and knocking years off your appearance!
PRP Therapy is a 100 % natural procedure. It does not use animal products or any other foreign material. Research and clinical data show PRP obtained from the patient’s own blood is safe, with very minimal risk of adverse reactions or complications. Because the platelets are produced from your own blood, there is no risk of rejection or disease transmission.
The average treatment will take between 30–45 minutes, depending on the areas being treated.
PRP Therapy can be used to treat numerous skin concerns, such as fine lines and wrinkles, crêpey skin, mild drooping or sagging, dehydrated scaly skin, or a dull lifeless complexion. It can be injected anywhere on the face and body.
While responses to treatment vary, most people may require a course of 3-6 treatments depending on age and skin concern. Each treatment is performed at monthly intervals. There is no limit to the number of treatments you can have.
Improvement of skin texture and tone are noticeable within three weeks. Full collagen regeneration takes up to three months. In most patients the results last up to 18 months. Touch-up treatments will maintain the results.
There are few side effects associated with Platelet Rich Plasma Therapy. Immediately after the procedure, you can expect some minor bruising, swelling and redness at the injection sites. You may also experience some tenderness and slight discomfort at the injection sites. However, any side effects should disappear within a few days following the procedure.
