Intense pulsed light (IPL) is an amazing technology used to treat a variety of complaints. It is particularly effective for targeting pigmentation, sun spots and age spots which may occur on the face, décolletage and back of hands.
Sunspots and liver spots are a dead giveaway for age, liver spots occur naturally as part of the ageing process but sunspots are caused by excessive sun exposure. Sometimes, people can have areas of excess pigmented skin due to medical conditions. If any of these issues are distracting attention or causing you problems, IPL therapy is a safe, effective treatment to give you the clear skin you’re dreaming of.
The treatment works by delivering short pulses of light which are absorbed by the high concentration of melanin found in age spots, sun spots and pigmentation areas. Once the melanin is heated, it is destroyed. When your treatment course is finished, the spots will eventually flake away or fade.
Although some small areas can benefit from a single treatment, a course of treatment is usually needed for best results. This will be discussed at your consultation.

Am I suitable candidate for the treatment? IPL works best on superficial skin pigmentation such as freckles, sun spots and age spots. It is not suitable for many darker skin tones or any pigmentated areas which are raised or bumpy.
Does the treatment hurt? The pain is often compared to that of an ‘elastic band flick’ – it is tolerable for most people and is very minimal.
How long do the results last? Results are permanent but further pigmentation may occur with natural aging or more sun exposure.
